Crusoe College runs an Advisory Program at each year level. Advisory is held each morning for 20 minutes at the start of the day and is an opportunity for each student to meet with their Advisory Teacher on a regular basis. The Advisory Teacher is the parents’ and students’ first point of contact with the College. The Advisory Teacher will be in contact with parents regarding attendance, uniform and will also provide parents with general updates as to how their children are progressing at school.
During Advisory sessions at Crusoe College the Year 7, 8 and 9 students participate in a program which compliments school values and allows teachers to work closely with students to improve their self-image, build friendships, resist peer pressure and achieve their goals.
Students also engage in a wide range of activities and programs across the year to support and diversify student’s knowledge and understandings around important issues such as cyber safety, wellbeing and health issues, sporting achievements, student presentations, careers information and College values.
Year 10 Advisory is dedicated to building strong working relationships with students. The focus of the year will be around setting achievable goals and working towards career pathways. Students’ MIPs (Managed Individual Pathways) work will take on different aspects throughout the year, culminating in the enrolment of students into Bendigo Senior Secondary College or for some students the setting up of a work pathway through work experience. Students also use Advisory time to organise and prepare for their work experience program.
There are many leadership opportunities for students in Year 10. Students are invited to participate in the Year 7 Mentor Program, building relationships and making connections with Junior College students during Advisory sessions. This time is also used to have a range of guest speakers come into the college and speak to students on a variety of topics from, health and wellbeing to digital footprint and career opportunities.
