Transition Program
The College runs an extensive Transition Program from Grade 6 into Year 7 and from Year 10 into Year 11 or other pathways.
Grade 6 to Year 7
The Grade 6 to Year 7 Transition Program begins with a series of incursions in your child’s primary school classroom. Activities in these sessions are designed to address questions asked by Grade 6 students and to equip them for their new learning environment.
During Term 3, all feeder primary schools are invited to the College for follow-up sessions, allowing students to experience their future educational setting. Students enrolled for the following year are also invited to Orientation Day, held in early December. On this day, students meet future classmates and staff and explore College facilities before starting secondary school.
Transition Support Program
The Transition Support Program provides individualised support to students and families who may require additional assistance during the transition period.
In partnership with primary schools, Crusoe College staff begin working with selected Grade 6 students during Term 3. These students participate in additional visits and experiences at the College to build familiarity, confidence and reduce anxiety about the move to secondary school.
Year 10 to Year 11 / Other Pathways
Crusoe College staff work closely with Year 10 students to support their transition into future pathways, including Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC), Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE (BRIT), apprenticeships or other education options.
Career planning begins in Term 2 through Advisory sessions. In Term 3, students participate in Pathway Expos, Career Expos, parent information sessions and course counselling (MIPs), leading to enrolment into BSSC for most students.
Students attend a Pathways Expo at BSSC, speak with staff from BSSC, La Trobe University and BRIT, and explore links between pathway choices and future careers. Course counselling interviews are held mid-Term 3, followed by transition activities and trial classes at BSSC later in the year.
